ARIRANG by BTS Achieves Remarkable Milestone with Third Consecutive Week at Number One on the Billboard 200

BTS’s latest album, ARIRANG, has etched its name further into music history by securing a third consecutive week at the coveted number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. This impressive feat marks the longest run at the top of the album chart for a group in over a decade, solidifying BTS’s global dominance and the enduring appeal of their artistry. The album garnered 124,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the tracking week ending April 9, as reported by Luminate, signaling a 34% decrease from the previous week but a testament to its sustained popularity. ARIRANG first ascended to the pinnacle of the Billboard 200 for the chart dated April 4.

A Historic Reign: BTS Joins Elite Group of Artists

The significance of ARIRANG‘s extended stay at number one cannot be overstated. It is the first album by a group to achieve three consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 since Mumford & Sons’ Babel in 2012-2013. Babel itself had a remarkable run, spending its initial three weeks atop the chart (dated October 13-27, 2012) before returning for an additional two weeks (March 2 and 9, 2013), fueled by its win for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. The fact that ARIRANG has not only matched but also extended this particular achievement underscores the extraordinary connection BTS has forged with its global fanbase.

Furthermore, ARIRANG is the first album to debut at number one and maintain that position for its initial three weeks since Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl in late 2025. Swift’s album went on to command the top spot for an astonishing twelve consecutive weeks, highlighting the rare caliber of commercial success ARIRANG is experiencing. This parallel places BTS in an exclusive category of artists who have demonstrated such sustained and overwhelming chart dominance in recent years.

A Quiet Top 10 Sees ARIRANG Maintain Its Momentum

The current week’s Billboard 200 chart reflects a relatively subdued landscape in the top 10, with no new albums making their debut in this elite tier. This marks the first time in three months, since the chart dated January 17, that the top 10 has remained free of new entries, indicating a strong hold on the existing market by established releases. Amidst this stability, ARIRANG has successfully navigated the competitive environment to retain its number one position.

The album’s 124,000 equivalent album units are comprised of a robust performance across various metrics. Album sales account for a significant 71,000 units, also securing the number one position on the Top Album Sales chart for a third consecutive week. Streaming equivalent units (SEA) contributed 50,000 units, translating to 52.44 million on-demand official streams of the album’s tracks. This streaming prowess propelled ARIRANG to a move from number 3 to number 4 on the Top Streaming Albums chart. Lastly, track equivalent units (TEA) added 3,000 units, showing a decrease of 65%.

The Competitive Landscape: Key Contenders in the Top 10

While ARIRANG reigns supreme, other artists are making their presence felt on the Billboard 200. Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem has climbed to the number two position, earning 80,000 equivalent album units, an increase of 5%. Ye’s (formerly Kanye West) BULLY has slipped to number three in its second week, with 69,000 units, a 54% decrease. Don Toliver’s OCTANE, bolstered by the release of new physical editions, has ascended to number four with 57,000 units, an increase of 7%. Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving rounds out the top five, moving to number five with 50,000 units, a 7% decrease. Luke Combs’ The Way I Am holds steady at number six, with 46,000 units, down 16%.

BTS’ ‘ARIRANG’ Scores Third Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200

The latter half of the top 10 is occupied by a strong contingent of former number one albums. Bad Bunny’s De Bati Más Fotos moves up to number seven (45,000 units, down 9%). Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time shows resilience, climbing to number eight (39,000 units, up 1%). Harry Styles’ Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. lands at number nine (37,000 units, down 22%), and Bruno Mars’ The Romantic completes the top 10 at number ten with nearly 37,000 units, a 7% decrease.

Behind the Success: The Enduring Power of BTS’s Music and Fandom

The sustained success of ARIRANG can be attributed to several interconnected factors. BTS, known for their meticulously crafted music, powerful performances, and relatable lyrical themes, has cultivated a deeply engaged global fanbase known as ARMY. This fandom is renowned for its organized and passionate support, consistently mobilizing to stream, purchase, and promote their favorite artists’ releases. The group’s ability to connect with fans on an emotional level, addressing themes of self-love, social commentary, and personal growth, has created a bond that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries.

ARIRANG‘s charting performance is not merely a reflection of current popularity but also a testament to the strategic and dedicated efforts of BTS’s management and the unwavering loyalty of their fanbase. The album’s diverse sonic palette and lyrical depth have resonated with a broad audience, attracting both long-time fans and new listeners. The group’s continued commitment to producing high-quality music, coupled with their innovative marketing strategies and global outreach, has ensured that their impact on the music industry remains profound and far-reaching.

A Look Back: The Journey to Global Stardom

BTS, formed by Big Hit Music (now HYBE Corporation), debuted in South Korea in 2013. Their initial rise to fame was gradual, built on a foundation of authentic storytelling and a unique blend of hip-hop, R&B, and pop music. However, over the past decade, their trajectory has been nothing short of meteoric. Their breakthrough into the Western music market began with increasing international recognition, culminating in significant chart achievements on the Billboard charts.

The group’s ability to consistently release chart-topping albums and singles has redefined what is possible for non-English speaking artists in the global music landscape. Their tours have consistently sold out stadiums worldwide, and their social media presence is unparalleled, demonstrating their ability to connect directly with millions of fans. The Billboard 200 success of ARIRANG is a continuation of this legacy, showcasing their enduring appeal and their capacity to captivate audiences on a global scale.

Future Implications: Setting New Benchmarks

The extended reign of ARIRANG at number one on the Billboard 200 not only solidifies BTS’s status as one of the most influential musical acts of their generation but also sets new benchmarks for group artists in the modern music era. Their continued success highlights the evolving dynamics of the music industry, where global fandom, digital consumption, and authentic artist-fan connection play increasingly pivotal roles. As BTS continues to break records and push creative boundaries, their impact on the music landscape is set to inspire future generations of artists and further solidify the global reach of K-pop. The dedication of their fanbase, coupled with the group’s undeniable talent, ensures that their journey will be closely watched, as they continue to chart new territories in the world of music.
