The cinematic world is abuzz with the triumphant return of Andy Sachs and Miranda Priestly in "The Devil Wears Prada 2," a sequel that has not only dominated the box office but has also sent a powerful ripple effect through the music industry. As audiences flock to theaters, the film’s soundtrack is experiencing a significant surge in popularity, breathing new life into both contemporary hits and beloved classics. This phenomenon is mirrored by the unexpected resurgence of Mac Miller’s 2016 track "Cinderella," propelled by the ever-evolving landscape of social media, and the remarkable ascent of emerging artist Karlee Girl with her infectious single "Right Back," a testament to the power of organic viral marketing.

Box Office Blockbuster Fuels Soundtrack Renaissance

"The Devil Wears Prada 2," released nationwide on May 1st, has achieved remarkable commercial success, opening to an impressive $77 million in domestic returns and a global total of $233 million. This debut performance positions it as the second-highest opening of the year, trailing only "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," and significantly eclipses the original film’s opening weekend figures from two decades prior. The film’s critical reception has also been largely positive, underscoring its broad appeal.

This cinematic triumph has inevitably translated into a substantial boost for its accompanying soundtrack. Much like its predecessor, which helped propel KT Tunstall’s "Suddenly I See" to mainstream success and featured an eclectic mix of artists including U2, Alanis Morissette, and Madonna, the sequel’s soundtrack is demonstrating robust performance.

A central driver of this musical resurgence is pop icon Lady Gaga. Making a notable cameo in the film, Gaga also contributed three original songs to the soundtrack, including the already-released collaboration with Doechii, "Runway." The single "Runway" experienced a dramatic surge in popularity over the film’s opening weekend (May 1-3), amassing nearly 2.2 million official on-demand U.S. streams. This represents a staggering 189% increase from the 756,000 streams it garnered in the preceding weekend, according to data from Luminate.

Beyond Gaga’s contributions, other tracks featured in the film are also seeing significant upticks. Dua Lipa’s "End of an Era," from her recently released album "Radical Optimism," which coincides with the film’s release, saw a 207% increase in streams, reaching 138,000. The timeless anthem "Vogue" by Madonna, a nod to the original film’s soundtrack, experienced a 30% rise in streams, accumulating 493,000. The enduring appeal of the original film also contributed to a notable bump for KT Tunstall’s "Suddenly I See," which saw its streams increase from 282,000 to 357,000, a gain of 27% over the same weekend. These figures highlight the potent synergy between successful film releases and their musical counterparts, demonstrating how cinematic narratives can reignite listener engagement with a diverse range of music.

Mac Miller’s "Cinderella" Finds New Life on TikTok

In a testament to the enduring power of beloved artists and the viral nature of modern social media platforms, Mac Miller and Ty Dolla $ign’s 2016 track "Cinderella" has re-entered the cultural consciousness and achieved a significant streaming surge. The song has officially entered the top 10 of the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart for the first time, more than a decade after its initial release. This resurgence is largely attributed to its widespread adoption on TikTok.

Since the fall of 2025, younger audiences have increasingly gravitated towards this fan-favorite from Miller’s 2016 album, "The Divine Feminine." The track’s appeal lies in its tender, introspective lyrics from Miller and the smooth, evocative hook provided by Ty Dolla $ign. The official "Cinderella" sound on TikTok has been utilized in over 2.2 million video creations, with users employing the phrase "I was/am so Cinderella by Mac Miller about him/her/them" to express profound romantic infatuation. This trend has extended to users connecting the song’s themes to Miller’s personal life and relationships, notably his close friendship and past romantic involvement with pop superstar Ariana Grande. The song’s multifaceted resonance has allowed it to permeate various corners of the TikTok landscape.

The streaming numbers for "Cinderella" reflect this burgeoning popularity. Over the past four weeks, the track has seen a remarkable 146% increase in streams. During the week of March 26-April 2, it garnered 2.43 million official on-demand U.S. streams. This figure dramatically escalated to nearly 6 million streams during the week of April 24-30. While "The Divine Feminine" album reached number 2 on the Billboard 200 upon its release, none of its singles charted on the Hot 100. The continued upward trajectory of "Cinderella" suggests that this may soon change, underscoring the profound impact of social media trends on music consumption and chart performance.

Karlee Girl’s "Right Back" Rides Viral Wave to Streaming Success

Emerging artist Karlee Girl, known for her participation in "Dream Academy" and "Building the Band," has experienced a meteoric rise to streaming prominence, fueled by a unique blend of social media satire and genuine fan appreciation. Her track "Right Back," initially released in February, began to gain traction in early April through a series of viral posts on X (formerly Twitter). These posts, often satirical in nature, praised the song’s infectious energy, inadvertently introducing it to a wider audience who then embraced the upbeat track for its intrinsic merits.

The momentum accelerated when Doechii shared a TikTok video on April 19th, singing along to "Right Back." By April 22nd, Karlee herself posted an acoustic rendition on TikTok, celebrating the song’s milestone of one million streams. The viral wave continued as Sophia and Yoonchae of the K-pop group KATSEYE shared a TikTok dance to the song on April 27th, further amplifying its reach. Beyond these high-profile endorsements, "Right Back" has been featured in over 169,000 TikTok posts, solidifying its status as a breakout hit.

The streaming data for "Right Back" paints a dramatic picture of its ascent. During the week of April 3-9, the song collected a modest 39,000 official on-demand U.S. streams. The following week (April 10-16), coinciding with its initial virality on X, streams jumped by an astonishing 370% to over 185,000. The week of April 17-23, influenced by Doechii’s TikTok, saw another significant surge of 302%, pushing streams to over 747,000. By the week of April 24-30, which included the KATSEYE feature, "Right Back" experienced a further 53% increase, reaching a remarkable 1.14 million official streams. In just four weeks, the song has seen an explosive growth of over 2,795% in streaming activity. This trajectory suggests that Karlee Girl, much like KATSEYE and ADÉLA who also emerged from "Dream Academy," is poised for significant future success in the music industry.
